Gabapentin (brand name: Neurontin) is a drug indicated to treat Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN) and Partial-onset seizures, but also is prescribed off-label to treat other forms of chronic pain. Recent studies have indicated that receiving six or more prescriptions of gabapentin for lower back pain is associated with a significantly increased risk of developing dementia.
Eligibility
You may qualify if you meet the below criteria:
Prescribed Gabapentin 6 or more times between 2000 and 2024.
The prescription was for chronic pain or lower back pain.
Diagnosed by a neurologist or other specialist (not a primary care physician) with early-onset dementia before the age of 65.
