The USAA Late Fee Interest Payment Settlement resolves a class action lawsuit (Black et al. v. USAA has agreed to a $5 million settlement to compensate current and former policyholders who were charged late fees on Maryland policies between 2011 and 2019 and received a refund but no interest. No claim form is required for this settlement. Payments will be made automatically, as a statement credit for current policyholders or a mailed check for former policyholders.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for benefits if you were a policyholder of a USAA insurance policy in Maryland who received a late fee refund, as ordered by the Maryland Insurance Commissioner in 2020, but you did not receive any interest on this refund.

You held an insurance policy in Maryland with any of the USAA Defendant Insurance Companies

You were charged a late fee by your insurance company

You received a refund for the late fee charge(s) pursuant to a 2020 order by the Maryland Insurance Commissioner

You did not receive interest on the refund you were paid

The USAA Defendant insurance companies include: USAA General Indemnity Company, Garrison Property and Casualty Insurance Company, United States Automobile Association and USAA Casualty Insurance Company. If you are a former policyholder, make sure that your current address has been updated with your insurance company.

No Claim Form Required

Payments are automatic for eligible members.

Current policyholders get a statement credit.

Former policyholders get a check by mail.
